GRAND PAPUA HOTEL
Port Moresby, PNG
The first newly built hotel in Port Moresby in over two decades, The Grand Papua Hotel is a luxury state of the art building situated on the highest point in the city. At 20 storeys, it is now the tallest building in Port Moresby.
The podium houses conference facilities, car parking, services and a day spa, while the tower contains hotel rooms including executive suites, an executive club and a gymnasium. The main entry opens to a sumptuous foyer, restaurant, bar and outdoor terrace with a pool and spa. Built adjacent to the site of the original historic Papua Hotel (destroyed by fire), the interiors of The Grand Papua Hotel by Space Studio are contemporary with a reference to the more colonial style of the original.

GATEWAY BAR
Port Moresby, PNG
A new 3 storey bar and restaurant building at the Gateway Hotel Port Moresby. Bars, kitchens, services and amenities are housed in a heavy solid core element with the seating spaces and gaming room projecting outwards. The entrance through the core is under an awning that has been peeled up from the wall cladding on the back of the building. Covered balconies to the lower bar restaurant and a roof terrace to the upper bar look over Jacksons airport and are wrapped with perforated screen panels with a Melanesian pattern motif.

GATEWAY RESTAURANT
Port Moresby, PNG
A dingy basement space below the Gateway Hotel has been transformed into a family restaurant and take away café. The project included a new commercial kitchen and buffet servery. The design transforms a low and ramshackle underground space into a cosy attractive basement cellar with rich timber, brick, stone and copper/brass finishes.
