SYDNEY ANTIQUE CENTRE

SYDNEY

A major refurbishment of the largest and oldest antique centre in Australia. The design intent was to create a unified grand foyer and café area, beyond the boundaries of which the individual shop holders could maintain their own level of haphazardness. The design aesthetic required was something both modern yet sympathetic to the main feature of the antiques.

The café is designed as a focal point of activity, with patrons seated amongst the display cases, as if inside a gallery. Groups of low and high dark timber showcases define the foyer space and provide a balustrade to the main stair. Display cases are softly illuminated from their bases, through glass shelves. A long reception counter provides generous point of contact between patrons and staff.
